The first full covering of snow on famous Mount Teide occurred last night as you can see here.

It is always fascinating to see snow high up on the mountain while here at Club Olympus at coast level, people are sunbathing!

At over 12,000 feet high, Teide is the highest point in Spanish territory. You can drive right to the foot of the volcanic cone and then take a cable car virtually to the top. If you haven't made that trip yet then do think about it on your next visit.

Here below is a shot of the volcano cone taken from inside the main crater during last summer. You can just see the cable car on the top right of the mountainside.

This flat crater area is called the Canadas valley and you can clearly see ancient lava flows down the side of the cone. Mount Teide is always impressive but even more so when covered in snow.

The snow of course is vital for the Tenerife water supply. The snow-melt runs through the porous volcanic rock into giant underground galleries. These galleries have been enlarged over the years to hold millions of litres of water. This water is then piped to the towns and villages. Locals are always pleased to see Teide with her hat of snow on!
